Description & Operating Principle

HMEC’s Automatic Ampoule Visual Inspection Machine is designed to safeguard the integrity and purity of sealed glass ampoules in sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing. In liquid injectables, particulate contamination—such as glass fragments from neck sealing, airborne fibers, dust, or chemical precipitation—represents a major patient hazard and critical cGMP violation.

The machine accepts ampoules via an infeed turn table and synchronized worm screw into a precision starwheel. At the inspection station, ampoules undergo high-speed rotation to induce a vortex within the liquid, lifting dense particles off the container bottom into suspension. The rotation is abruptly braked ("spin-and-stop" principle); the outer glass envelope becomes stationary while the liquid remains in motion. As light traverses the spinning fluid against polarized dual black-and-white backgrounds or high-resolution camera sensors, floating particles refract light intensely, allowing operators or automated sensors to identify and instantly reject non-conforming ampoules.
